Google Using Snap Preview Technology
Taking a cue from other search engines, most notably ask.com, Google has now begun offering previews of website on search results. In that never ending quest of us users trying to consume as much information as quickly as possible, Google has determined that major changes are needed. From Snap’s website:
The 2 million websites and blogs that use Snap.com’s Snap Shots technology now share something with one of the world’s largest Internet companies:
Google, which maintains a website called SearchMash for testing new technologies and interface designs, is using Snap’s website preview technology. The new the SearchMash site uses Adobe’s Flash technology rather than AJAX which is used on the primary SearchMash site and selectively in Google’s main search results.
Said Snap.com CEO and Co-Founder Tom McGovern, “I’ve always loved using SearchMash. Now that it has website previews, there’s just so much more to love.”
Sites wishing to be part of the next wave of Snap Shots are encouraged to visit Snap Shots Central to learn what’s possible now and to register for the free service that’s enhancing sites worldwide.

Blinkx AdHoc
Blinkx Adhoc is a new video advertising platform that will let you as a publisher, take the embed code of any of the videos online like on YouTube and Google Video, and others, and place them one your website with a related advertisement embedded in the video. You earn money when someone clicks on the ad.
As an advertiser you are only paying per click and they state that:
“Our clever technology matches relevant, in-video text ads to any video.”
We’ll we are going to test this out and see what happens. Below is an ad I picked out to use for the test.
As you can see I picked some funny cat outtakes. How relevant is the ad compared to the video being played or the content on this page?
Please comment what you see so I can get an idea of the effectiveness of their backend that is matching the ads.
I’ll update this later as I play around a little more with the video ads.

Google is buying Jaiku
From the Jaiku homepage:
“While itβs too soon to comment on specific plans, we look forward to working with our new friends at Google over the coming months to expand in ways we hope you’ll find interesting and useful. Our engineers are excited to be working together and enthusiastic developers lead to great innovation. We look forward to accomplishing great things together. In order to focus on innovation instead of scaling, we have decided to close new user sign-ups for now.”
What does this mean for Twitter and Pownce?
Jaiku has put together a quick Q&A about the acquisition here: http://www.jaiku.com/help/google
No doubt it will be part of the new Google Phone…
